Aadhaar offline verification for hotels: QR, ZIP file and Aadhaar app explained

• Aadhaar QR — the secure QR code printed on newer Aadhaar cards and e-Aadhaar, or shown in the guest’s Aadhaar app. You scan it with a phone or tablet camera. This is the quickest option at the desk.
• Aadhaar ZIP file (Offline eKYC) — the guest downloads a password-protected ZIP from UIDAI’s website and gives you the 4-digit share code they chose. Useful when the guest isn’t at the desk yet.
• Aadhaar app — you show a QR code, the guest scans it with the Aadhaar app on their own phone and approves the request. This needs a one-time UIDAI registration for your business.

Name, date or year of birth, gender, address and photo — plus a reference that includes only the last four digits of the Aadhaar number. The full 12-digit number is not part of it.

Older Aadhaar QR codes that contain the full number are refused, so that number never enters your system.

• The digital signature proves the details came from UIDAI and weren’t edited
• There is no copy of the card lying in a drawer
• The full Aadhaar number never needs to be written down or stored

A guest can decline to use Aadhaar. In that case you can record another ID — a driving licence, voter ID or passport — which Kiauth marks as recorded rather than verified.

Kiauth checks UIDAI’s digital signature on its own servers; the Aadhaar file and share code are never sent to any outside service, and verified guest records are stored in India. The verified guest is added to your digital guest register automatically.
